Here's a fair list of sites that I've visited over they years & I thought you might enjoy a fair number of these.

Catagories

Video Game Sites

Want to keep up-to-date with the game industry? Spend your time here!

Gaming Sites

Feel like actually playing games than reading about them? Check one of these sites out!

Entertainment Sites

Need to kill some time without actually playing a game? Then check out one of these sites!

Community Sites

These are sites where you can meet others & talk about stuff in the Old School way... without the pokes & invites with social (stalker) sites like Facebook & MySpace

Music Sites

These links are for those who want to get their groove on, in one way or another. I have these listed in groups to make it easier to handle.

Downloads

These are sites that are mostly linked for downloading purposes. These are usually open-source, but there are closed-sourced stuff here as well. This section is listed alphabetically to make it easier to access.

Gone... but NOT forgotten...

This is pretty much the "Graveyard" of links... Sites that have come & gone online... They're just listed here for archival purposes

  • Refugees -- http://refugee.bl.org | http://www.arcadium.org (Died: circa 2005)
    • Catagory: Community Site
    • Refugees was a community site for those who have previous lost their community site for some reason. Originally called "Arcadium Refugees", it was rebranded "Refugees" to accomidate other sites.
    • Cause of Death: Legal Issues, Engine Tweaking, Hardware -- The biggest issue that killed the site was more legal deals as the site became a target of stalkers, pedophiles & other "seedy" people that brought the attention of some police departments. The site went down shortly after Hurricane Katrina as a hard drive on another server was going bad, so the owner of the site took it down so he could focus on tweaking the site engine (adding an ID check thing) & never heard from since.
  • Playsite -- http://www.playsite.com (Died: circa 2006)
    • Catagory: Gaming Site
    • Playsite was a public gaming site that supported classic games (Chess, Checkers, Hearts, ect.) that ran totally in Java.
    • Cause of Death: Corporate Takeover
    • Current Life: Portal for iWin
  • Games.com -- http://www.games.com (Died: circa 2005-2006)
    • Catagory: Gaming Site
    • Games.com was a great gaming site that supported a bunch of board & card games (Monopoly, Clue, Sorry, Scrabble, ect.) that ran totally in Java.
    • Cause of Death: Licensing -- Things with Hasbro, Atari & Playsite kind of fell through here. The problems just caused the site to implode within itself.
    • Current Life: Game Portal for AOL
  • Agents -- http://themachine.2y.net (Died: circa 2006)
    • Catagory: Gaming / Community Site
    • Agents was a basic, text-based game where players perform (simulated) espionage tasks & take out rival players to advance in the game.
    • Cause of Death: Owner Apathy -- The Owner of the just lost interest with the site & the game they made, mostly because there was a mad rush of activity at Midnight (Central Time) as all the dead agents were revived... making it difficult for others to enjoy the game (as they were likely killed off or there's slim pickings by 1:00 AM).
  • TetriNET 2 -- http://www.tetrinet2.com (Died: circa 2007)
    • Catagory: Gaming Site
    • TetriNET 2, better known as TetriNET 2.0, was the sequel (if you wanted to call it that) to the original TetriNET (1.13) that included improvements to the game (new power-ups & hold piece) & interface as well as improve anti-cheating measures.
    • Cause of Death: Owner Apathy / Funding -- The maker of TetriNET 2 got tired working on the game & funds dwindled, which forced his hand to kill the game servers & later the site. In the end, he was offering to sell the source code for TetriNET 2 for $5000 before the site went down. Since the game download didn't include a personal game server (nor the dedicated servers were made available), TetriNET 2 is forever lost... The original TetriNET is still available & played online.
  • You Don't Know Jack -- http://www.youdontknowjack.com (Died: Nov. 2008)
    • Catagory: Gaming Site
    • You Don't Know Jack, which was one of the greatest trivia game series available for PC, returns as an online game with new episodes on a near-daily basis with Cookie Masterson (likely noted as THE MOST FAVORITE host of the series) returning as host.
    • Cause of Death: Funding -- Jellyvision just couldn't afford (or so they say) to spend any more money making new content for the site, so they just stopped after 2 years of running the site. At Time of Death, there were 100 episodes & around 120 (daily) Dis-or-Dats
    • Current Life: Archive for all web episodes created.
